I met my dear friend and sister lifeguard, Anandi, at Kahalu’u Beach Park on the Big Island in 2005. It was the first day of her ocean safety officer career. She has been a significant part of my life for 20 years. If you’ve had the pleasure

of meeting Anandi, you know the positive energy she brings to everyone around her and in everything she does.

Anandi is a private person, and I had to convince her to share her story. With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she realized that sharing her journey could save a life. In July, she received the news of a stage three hormone-positive diagnosis. She encourages everyone to get checked if you ever feel anything unusual or concerning. Throughout this experience, Anandi has gathered many helpful insights and would love to share them, hoping to bring comfort and ease to others navigating similar paths. She is currently halfway through chemotherapy, with surgery and radiation to follow, which means time away from work.
