MY STORY

Hello everyone,

As you may know, I have been fighting to get my citizenship for the last ten years.

Back story: I was adopted at age 8 years old. After a couple years of being adopted my family was notified that I wasn’t a citizen. This should have been taking care of from the adoption agency but slipped through their cracks. Knowing that, my family has been working since then to obtain my citizenship. Unfortunately, I kept running into different obstacles, along the way, such as not having any records or history from my birth parents, my birth parents never registered myself when I was born (so now I have no birth certificate), the adoption courts don’t have all my documentation from when I was adopted. (was told that, my case file was in the form of paper but when they switched over to online documentation, my case file was lost through that process), etc. I have run into different issues, and now that I am finally close, I am reaching out to friends and family for some help & prayers.

Just recently, I am now close to achieving my big dream. However, I have hit a financial dilemma. With everything needed to make this happen all expenses add up to more than $7,000. That includes $640 application fee & an $85 biometric fee for a total of $725 (https://www.uscis.gov/n-400 ) in addition to legal fees as well as $1000 to get a birth certificate, $500 to submit for my extension for my work authorization permit and other unexpected expenses. I am currently working 2 jobs and with the help of my boyfriend & family, I have been able to cover most expenses but being closer, new cost have appeared. With my renewal expiring soon, I won’t be allowed to work. Therefore, I would lose my job until I get my work permit card. To raise this money myself would take a great deal of time and I am just trying to get my citizenship by March. If anyone know has been through the process know how difficult it can be. Although I am close to obtaining my citizenship & have lived here most of my life, due to the current uncertainty & instability regarding immigration, I feel that it is imperative that I move forward with the citizenship application process asap. It is of vital importance to be a citizen in this country as well as having the honor of voting, I wish to get my paperwork filed so I that I can be registered to vote.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart for anything you can give & for sharing my story with others. I will be updating each of you throughout the whole process. If you guys have any questions, please reach out to me.
