I am in no way qualified to run a marathon, but am going to do so anyway. I'll be running the 2027 Brighton Marathon, and I am doing so to support a cause I'm passionate about; ensuring that the Holocaust is not forgotten and that we continue to educate future generations about its' horrors to ensure that it is not repeated.
The Holocaust Memorial Day Trusts' purpose is to promote and support Holocaust Memorial Day as the UK’s national day to commemorate the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust, and the millions more murdered under Nazi persecution.
I learned about the Holocaust when I was doing my GCSE's in 2005/6 but we don't educate people anywhere near well enough about the Holocaust in this country, it's largely considered optional to know anything about it. Now that social media has in many circles accelerated into full blown disinformation/conspiracy-theory territory, charities like this need help to make sure that future generations remember what happened, particularly when the last survivors have passed on.
More information about Holocaust Memorial Day Trust: Our mission and purpose are based on the Stockholm Declaration and the Statement of Commitment created at the Stockholm Conference on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research, in the year 2000. These form the basis of our charitable objectives.
