Help An Uber Driver Recover From Shooting

Donation protected

My name is John Williams, and I work as an Uber driver in Chicago. On March 17th, 2024, I started my usual evening shift, collecting passengers in and around the Chicago area. I responded to a message to pick up a woman in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. As soon as she sat in the car, she screamed at me to drive the vehicle as fast as possible. I turned round to ask her what the urgency was, and she responded by telling me that someone was getting ready to shot at the car. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, and for a moment, I thought she was joking. As I turned around to look at her, she dropped down in her seat as 2 loud shots rained down on the vehicle. In complete and utter shock, I ducked into my driver’s seat, pressed my foot down on the accelerator, and drove my car as fast as possible. As I continued down the street, further rounds of gunfire began, and I changed my route in my desperate need to find safety.

After this incident, I could not continue with my shift that evening, and subsequently, I’ve been too traumatized to continue driving for Uber. This incident could have easily resulted in two fatalities. I’ve been severely shaken by what happened, and it has had a profound effect on my mental, emotional, and physical well-being. I am not a young man, but I must work to meet my cost-of-living commitments. But since this episode, my stress levels and anxiety have hit the roof and I can’t work. I have been left in a situation where I must now seek professional help to cope with ongoing panic attacks, sleepless nights, and sudden shakes when I hear loud noises.

I hope to raise enough money to cover my living expenses, medical bills, and therapy sessions while I cannot work. These funds will enable me to receive the necessary treatments and support during this challenging time. I’m just a regular guy trying to make an honest living. Nobody should have to fear for their safety when simply going out to work. My confidence has been affected, and I’m worried about driving for Uber again, but I know with the proper support and therapy, I will recover.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my campaign story. I would greatly appreciate any amount you can spare to contribute to my road to recovery. Please don’t forget to share this campaign with your family, friends, colleagues, and social media followers, as my ordeal has already gone viral.
