Seeking Your Support to Complete My Master’s Degree

Hello,

My name is Gulnura Azimkanova, and I am an international student from Kyrgyzstan studying for a Master’s in Management and Finance at the George Washington University School of Business in Washington DC. I am currently in my fourth and final semester, with just a few months left to complete my degree in December 2024. I grew up in a single-parent household with just my mother who instilled in me the resilience and drive to achieve my goals. As a first-generation college student, it has been a dream of my mother's to see me obtain a master’s degree from an American university as well. My younger brother looks up to me and I hope to continue to be an inspiration to him and my family as I complete my degree and pursue career opportunities. My family has provided me with all they can to help me continue to pay for my education, but they only have so much to offer me.

I have worked incredibly hard to reach this point. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Economics from the American University of Central Asia on a scholarship, one of the most prestigious universities in my country. I was a well-rounded student committed to multiple extracurriculars like student government, volleyball, language clubs and also took time to volunteer in my community. I was so dedicated to learning English to have the opportunity to study in America one day, so I began to teach myself at the age of 12. I taught myself as much as I could with the limited resources I had available to me, but I wasn’t making fast enough progress. At the age of 14, I begged my mother to allow me to take English courses, which were an additional cost, a cost my mother did not have the money for. She sacrificed her own needs to ensure I was excelling in my education. I have worked extremely hard to get to where I am today and am proud to say I am on the verge of completing my Master’s degree. This would give me the chance to show my mother just how appreciative I am of the sacrifices she made for me. However, it saddens me to say that I am at risk of having to return to my home country without finishing my education due to unforeseen financial difficulties that my sponsor faced.

They were unable to cover my tuition for the spring semester. My family, already stretched thin, cannot afford to help me either. As a result, I now owe $28,000, which I must pay to register for classes this fall and complete my degree. I am so eager to do whatever I can to meet this financial goal, but as an international student, I am not permitted to work off-campus to earn the money I need. This situation has been incredibly stressful and disheartening. I have poured my heart and soul into my studies, dreaming of the day I would graduate and use my education to give back to my mother and positively impact the world. Leaving without my degree would not only be a personal loss but would also diminish the opportunities I can create for myself and my community back home.

I am turning to you, kind-hearted individuals, for help. I am seeking to raise at least $15,000 to cover half of my outstanding tuition balance. Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring me one step closer to achieving my dream of completing my degree. Your support will not only help me overcome this immediate financial hurdle but will also empower me to continue striving towards my goals.

Сейчас я на последнем семестре, и до завершения моего образования осталось несколько месяцев - до декабря 2024 года. Я выросла в семье с одним родителем, и моя мама научила меня стойкости и стремлению к достижению целей. Как первая в семье, кто получает высшее образование, я хочу воплотить мечту моей мамы - получить степень магистра в американском университете. Моя семья сделала все возможное, чтобы помочь мне оплатить обучение, но их возможности ограничены.

Я очень много работала, чтобы достичь этого уровня. Я получила степень бакалавра по экономике в Американском Университете Центральной Азии на стипендии. В возрасте 12 лет я начала самостоятельно учить английский, а в 14 лет попросила маму позволить мне посещать курсы, несмотря на дополнительные расходы.

Из-за финансовых трудностей моего спонсора я не могу оплатить обучение за весенний семестр. В результате, я должна 28 000 долларов, чтобы зарегистрироваться на осенний семестр и завершить образование. Как международный студент, я не имею права работать за пределами кампуса.
