I am Charity Darkwa, a master of public policy graduate student at the University of Maryland. As an international student, one email can change everything. I had secured a Graduate Assistantship that would ease the financial burden of my program – a program that's valued and in-demand, but comes with a steep price tag.

By one email, I lost this opportunity that gave me financial security and hope of excelling in my degree without worry. Now, funding cuts and uncertainty have left me facing tough choices between tuition, rent, and living expenses.

Honestly, it is overwhelming. I have fallen ill, and my mental health keeps taking a hit. It's hard to stay hopeful, but I am trying. That is why I am reaching out.

I have explored various options, including private loans, but have been unsuccessful.
