Diego Andujar, a young Indigenous father, was on his way to help repair and tidy the graves of family on the Rosebud Reservation when he was the victim of a robbery and horrible assault. He stopped at the store to pick up a few things when a group of young adults viciously beat and assaulted him using a machete, robbing and severely injuring him. Diego suffered a critical head injury, loosing a piece of his skull, in addition to numerous injuries to his face and having his arm nearly chopped off causing serious nerve damage.
Diego's mother, Shaunta Roubideaux, lives in Alaska and desperately needs to be by his side while he goes through at least 3 brain surgeries as well as surgeries to try and save his arm. To do this Shaunta needs your help!
Shaunta has worked hard to build a life in Alaska that supports her community, her sobriety, and her deeply spiritual Indigenous way of being in the world. As a Indigenous activist she was one of the Standing Rock water protectors and in Alaska she works in the mental health field helping those who need guidance and support. While her work is rewarding and critical in our world it does not leave her with the resources to drop everything to be at her son's bedside where she now needs to be.
We know that this is a tough time for many but it is critical to help this Indigenous mom be at the bedside of her sweet, shy, hardworking son while he fights to survive his critical injuries. Shaunta needs travel expenses, housing, food, and to not worry about bills piling up back home while she is unable to work as she supports Diego in his time of need. Your donation will make it possible for Shaunta to provide her son the blessings that only a mom can give.
In a couple of weeks, once Diego becomes stable, the family will need to face the challenges of the loss of Diego's income that supports his young child and the long recovery ahead of them. But for now just being able to be there and hold his hand, offering prayers and strength while her son goes through multiple surgeries is what is needed. Please help Shaunta support her son without worrying about the financial side of things! Any amount helps and all funds will go directly to Shaunta in this difficult time.
Blessings and Gratitude to you all.
