Hi, My name is Evelyne! I’m Rwandese and Tanzanian, currently finishing my master's in political sciences at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. I’ve been living in Vancouver, Canada for close to two years now hoping to make this a permanent home.

I'm hoping to be able to attend my brother's wedding in Kigali, Rwanda this summer and unfortunately, with my current financial standing as a full-time international student whose visa requirements prohibit me to have a full-time job until I graduate, that ability is way out of my capacity and means. My brother has fully taken guardianship and has been my supporter throughout my journey in school and after our mom passed away, he and my family have been a support system that has helped me make it this far even when times have felt dark.

The last time I was able to visit home, was after my mother unexpectedly passed away. This trip will provide the opportunity for me to experience a happy occasion and heal as a family.

It was my mom's final wish for me to be able to finish my degree in Canada. However, living so far away from family comes with its set of challenges. Given how expensive it is to fly cross continentally, this will be potentially the last time I will see my family for a while until I enter a place where I'm comfortable and able to independently make visits back home.

Thank you for your support and for taking the time to hear my story. Any help is much appreciated and I hope to make the most out of this trip!
