Help an Army family rebuild after devastating home water damage
I’m starting this fundraiser for my niece Amber, her husband Jacob, and their two beautiful young children, ages 1 and almost 3. They’re a hardworking Army family who are currently facing an incredibly tough and unexpected situation.
Just two weeks before Jacob leaves for training and a few months the family is relocated by the military, their home was severely water damaged from hidden pipe leaks inside the walls. The damage is extensive — hundreds of square feet of drywall and flooring, all the way down to the subfloor, need to be completely replaced. The home will be a construction zone and unlivable for a family, especially with two young children, one of whom is autistic and highly sensitive to noise and disruption.
They’ve already spent over $1,000 on emergency plumbing repairs, and the contractor estimates it will take two months to fully restore the home. However, their insurance company is already pushing back on the claim — even before an adjuster has come out — and is questioning whether they’ll reimburse anything, even the emergency expenses already paid. Insurance is also pushing back on covering alternate accommodations, claiming that not “enough” of the home is impacted.
To make matters even more difficult, Jacob — an active-duty service member — will soon be restationed. He leaves for a 2-month training in just a few weeks and then will relocate with the family shortly after. The plan was to list the house for sale on May 1, but now they are facing an uncertain financial and housing situation in the middle of this transition.
Amber is now navigating the logistics of displacement, repairs, and selling a damaged home — all while caring for two small children on her own and without clarity from insurance.
They urgently need help to cover:
* Temporary housing for the family during repairs
* Emergency repair costs already incurred
* Additional out-of-pocket repair expenses that insurance may not cover
* Childcare or support resources during this overwhelming time
This family has given so much in service to our country — let’s come together to support them through this difficult chapter. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you’re not able to give right now, please consider sharing their story.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
