Hi everyone,
My name is Najia. I'm organising this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Mahmoud Gharbawi and his family in G@za. I met him in December 2023 through Instagram where he expressed his desire to protect his family and evacuate with them to safety. He is currently living with his family including his brothers, sisters, and his young nephew. They are originally from North G@za however they have been continuously displaced from place to place under heavy bombardment from the occupation. He has very little means of escaping this brutal and terrifying situation with his only source of income being the generous donations from people like you.
Just a little bit about Mahmoud...
He is an extremely talented and strong parkour player. He began learning gymnastics when he was a child and competed in many gymnastics competitions in G@za. His dream is to travel the world and compete in global parkour competitions just like any other normal person, however, he is from Palest!ne which means unfortunately his voice is heavily suppressed. He was also diligently studying at college before he was hindered by the occupation. For the 7 months that I have known him I am constantly amazed at his morals and how resilient, strong and kind his soul is. He never complains but rather thanks God for everything he has. I want to help him achieve his dreams and also help his family live in safety, but I cannot do this without the help and compassion of others.
Update November 2024:
With the help of a friend, Mahmoud has started a movement to inspire others - the backflip challenge. Parkour is his way of finding hope, freedom, and peace during these difficult times, and he is reaching out to the parkour community and others to join him. The challenge is to do a backflip, record a short message of support, and share. But if you can't do a backflip, any movement and simple words of support would be amazing! I would like to remind you all that the smallest actions make a difference. Let's stand together as a community to support the people of G@za.
Unfortunately, his home and his neighbourhood has been completely destroyed which you can see in the pictures below. He has nowhere to return to and trying to find the basic necessities is very difficult and expensive. He has witnessed several wars in his lifetime due to the occupation forces, but especially now living without a home, lack of food (he only has half a meal per day), clean water, sanitary products, and other basic items, life in G@za has become unbearable. Everything he knew has been destroyed. He has expressed that he loves his family very much and that he wants to evacuate them to anywhere safe. Any place where they don't have to live in constant fear.
Leaving G@za, his home, is not a situation that anyone wants to be in, however, the indiscriminate war has made it impossible to live in safety. Unfortunately, money has become the biggest obstacle in this situation. Evacuating from G@za costs thousands per person, and it is impossible to find the money to do so without the generosity of donors.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
It has been almost a year that the people of G@za have had to suffer under the brutal occupation. They have experienced extreme weather conditions of the harsh winters, then under the burning sun, now again facing heavy rain and cold weather. With minimal aid entering, they have little means of buying supplies to protect themselves. Mahmoud's family tent is damaged, so unfortunately water leaks in and he has been struggling to purchase a new one. They also have no winter clothing to cover themselves from the cold, and they have been using the same clothing since the beginning of the war. These conditions are inhumane...
Please keep them in your prayers, and support them as much as possible.
Update 2025:
Praise to God a ceasefire agreement has been announced. Now it’s up to us to help Mahmoud and his family evacuate from G@za. Help him rebuild his life outside and represent his country, and hopefully one day will see a liberated P@lestine.
The world leaders have abandoned the Palest!n!ans, but this doesn't mean that we can't help them. I can assure you that all donations will go towards helping Mahmoud and his family evacuate from G@za to safety, and also to purchase necessities such as food, water, sanitary products, medical aid and paying monthly fees for his family tent.
This fundraiser is not affiliated with any organizations. I am setting this up at the request of Mahmoud and purely on my intentions after communicating with him on Instagram.
I have been sending him the donations to his brothers through bank transfer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
This fundraiser is endorsed by Mahmoud.
