Help an 81-Year-Old Vietnam Veteran and Louisiana Legend

At 81 years old, Edwin “Pops” Maldonado is a proud Vietnam Veteran who has given so much to this country. He served with honor during one of the most difficult times in American history, carrying the weight of sacrifice that so many veterans know all too well. Now, in his later years, he is facing challenges that no one should face alone.

Edwin “Pops” Maldonado’s home, which has been his family's home for decades and provided shelter for 5 generations, is no longer safe for him. The house is in desperate need of remodeling, upgrades and critical modifications. Simple tasks—like climbing stairs, standing up while showering, or even entering his own front door—have become daily struggles. His slow decline in mobility, 5 bypasses , heart valve replacement, knee replacement, and heart defibrillator installed just last October. To the public it may seem to not slow him down but in reality these procedures have taken their toll. His health issues and general cognitive decline that comes with age means that without these updates, he risks losing the independence or worse injury and dignity he’s fought so hard to maintain.

The repairs and modifications needed include:

Installing ramps, electrical wiring upgrades and widening doorways for easier accessibility

Remodeling the bathroom for safety (walk-in shower with seating, handrails, non-slip flooring and elevated toilets)

Fixing structural issues to ensure stability and security due to foundation issues.

Updating essential utilities, lighting, and appliances to make the home safe and livable.

Despite his strength and resilience, Edwin “Pops” Maldonado lives on an income that simply cannot cover these vital expenses. After dedicating his life to serving our nation, and being a strong public figure he now needs us to stand beside him.
