For my niece and her family... per the requirements of GoFundMe, there are several things I need to state here, since I started this campaign on the behalf of someone else while they were focused on their daughter’s situation:
1. Who you are: I am Adam Bowsky.
2. Where you're from: I am from Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for: I am Rebecca’s uncle and Braelyn’s great uncle.
4. How the funds will be used: for expenses not covered by insurance, travel to and from therapy, and to temporarily supplement Anthony & Rebecca’s income, now that she cannot work full time.
5. How you plan to send the funds to the parties you're raising money for or use the money on their behalf: I plan to give Anthony & Rebecca a check when the funds are withdrawn.
In early January of 2017, my husband Anthony and I welcomed our miracle daughter Braelyn into the world. She was born healthy, happy, and ready to take on anything life could bring her. On the night of July 15th, our world was turned upside down when Braelyn, 18 months old, was brought into the hospital I work at via ambulance. She was having uncontrollable seizures that would not stop for an hour in the ER, despite the best efforts of our amazing medical team.
That night, she was admitted into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) unstable and very ill. All we knew was that she tested positive for Mycoplasma, and the antibiotics they were starting her on would help. We knew something was truly wrong over the next three days when Braelyn was not fully recovering. Despite starting her on seizure medication, Braelyn was having breakthrough events neurologically, and she was not responding visually. The hospital performed a spinal tap and placed her on broad range antibiotics and antiviral medicines just in case she was sick with Meningitis. Many tests and scans were performed, but none of the doctors could truly explain why her condition was not improving, so they transferred us to St. Mary’s Medical Center PICU for more aggressive treatment.
On July 20th 2018 Braelyn underwent a 2-hour long MRI/MRA that revealed she had suffered a Watershed Infarction in her brain as a result from the seizures. This means that parts of her brain were not getting enough oxygen, which left her brain damaged. This damage has taken most of her sight away, she can’t stand or walk, her behavior is more unpredictable, and she can’t speak the way she used to. She had to temporarily be fed through a tube to ensure she was getting enough nutrients.
Today, Braelyn is still in the hospital, going through intense therapy to hopefully get her back to how she used to be. The doctors are telling us it will be at least a year of therapy and monitoring before we are able to understand how much improvement we can achieve. We do not know how much she will improve, or what she will regain. What we do is pray and work hard to get her the love and attention she deserves. This little girl continues to smile, laugh, and bring us joy despite all the pain and suffering. She will become a big sister in early December of 2018.
My husband and I were not financially prepared for Braelyn to become so sick. Between the upcoming costs for gas for travel 75 miles each way to and from outpatient therapy, and needing to find a home to accommodate our growing family’s needs, we are struggling, now that we are a one-income family. I had to stop working our daughter needs one of us with her during her recovery.
Once she is discharged, she will need more outpatient therapy, and accommodations for sight loss. We will continue to pray, and my husband will continue working hard to support us. We desperately need to find a home, and help to afford the ongoing costs of Braelyn’s needs, along with the expenses of a second miracle baby. Any amount given will help us, thank you so much.
