As 2024 turned into 2025, my family and I were hopeful, believing we had finally beaten cancer. We planned a small trip to visit my sisters in Cincinnati, but I felt unwell the entire time. By the end of our journey, I was in so much pain that I could barely stand. I thought it might be a kidney stone, but after a grueling ride home, I went straight to the hospital. The news was devastating: my breast cancer had metastasized to my bones and lymph nodes, causing about ten fractures in my spine and ribs. The pain is constant, and I often have to wear a brace to prevent further injury. My oncologist is recommending orthopedic surgeries to stabilize my spine, and I am undergoing weekly Taxol treatments along with several other medications for pain and nausea. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover everything, and the out-of-pocket expenses are overwhelming. On top of that, our home is in probate after my husband's last living parent passed away, and we've lost the family homestead exemption. Now, we must pay increased property taxes to keep our home, adding even more strain to our finances. After beating cancer in 2023, I was excited to return to college and pursue my dream of becoming an RN. Despite starting over, I made the dean's list and was invited to join a prestigious sorority. Grants and programs helped us pay for extra expenses, including property taxes. But the physical demands and another round of fractures forced me to withdraw from school, and the financial support disappeared. Now, my family is struggling to keep our home and pay for the medical care I need. I am also searching for a new doctor who is motivated to help me, after many delays and setbacks with my previous care. My husband has taken on every burden, every challenge, and every medical bill with grace and love. All I want is to make his caring for me as stress-free as possible, so he can continue to care for our son, Evan, once I am gone. I wish I didn't have to ask for help, but our situation is dire. Any support—whether through kind words, help with meals, groceries, prescriptions, transportation, or household tasks—would mean the world to us. If you are able, financial contributions through GoFundMe will help us cover medical bills, property taxes, and daily needs. Thank you for helping us hold our family together during this difficult time.
