Help Amy Simpson with her Medical Bills

PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE FINAL PUSH!

Amy Simpson, a dedicated wife, a loving mother, a passionate educator for over 28 years and an outspoken advocate for Public Education, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on the morning of January 29th. We are making a final push to reach our goal for this fundraiser in an attempt to secure the therapy and equipment she will need to continue her recovery when she comes home!

HER SITUATION

After suffering a hemorrhagic stroke early on the morning of January 29th, Amy was rushed into surgery at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to remove a large clot from the right side of her brain. Although the surgery was successfully performed by the capable neurosurgical specialists at CRMC, it was quickly discovered that additional bleeding had also been taking place in the center ventricles in her brain. This unexpected development prompted a second emergency surgery to install a tube into the center of her brain requiring a second opening in her skull, to help drain the additional blood and spinal fluid accumulating there. This second surgery was also a success and now, nearly 100 days from this incident, and after stays in the Cheyenne regional medical center ICU, a long term acute care facility in Denver, CO and a skilled nursing facility in Littleton, CO, Amy is nearing the end of an extended stay at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Englewood, CO, working hard through several hours of intensive occupational, physical and speech therapy per day, showing incremental improvements each day and looking forward to, at long last, going home!  Amy has been an inspiration for all of us and we are encouraged about her progress and her prospects for the future.

However, as Amy's doctors and therapists are quick to remind us, her road to recovery is "a marathon" and she will need a lot of specialized equipment (customized wheelchair, special bed, hydraulic lifts, medical accessories, adaptive transportation, etc.) and months of ongoing therapy when she comes home. This means that considerable time and resources will be dedicated to her recovery over the long term, much of which will, thankfully, be covered by insurance, but much of which will not.

Thanks to Amy’s amazing and generous network of family, friends and colleagues, we have raised nearly $31k toward our $40k goal and we are asking your assistance to get to the finish line so we can acquire the tools and assistance Amy will need to make the most of her opportunity for rehabilitation and recovery.
