Help Amy Save a Neglected Poodle Mix
Donation protected
Hello everyone. My name is Amy and I have been a veterinary technician for over 35 years. I have dedicated my life to helping animals.
Today I responded to a Facebook post that stated a poodle mix needed to be “gotten rid of.” I immediately reached out to the owner. Initially, I was hoping to give her some guidance on rescues, etc., but as we texted, I realized this dog needed help ASAP. When I arrived, the owner invited me into their cold basement. Once I saw him, I knew he needed serious help! The dog was severely matted on his head and legs, and he was extremely emaciated. The owner needed to rehome him because she was a single mom that had recently gone back to school and felt he needed someone who could care for him better. As the owner and I were talking, I noticed there was nothing soft for him to lie down on. There was a wire crate with no pan, so he was stepping on the bars of the crate. The crate was set on several pee pads. However, there was water out for him and some dry food in a bowl. She released him to me with no rehoming fee or supplies.
I immediately took him into the hospital to get him evaluated by a veterinarian. The vet and staff were quite shocked when they saw what condition he was in. After the vet took a quick look at him, we immediately went to work on removing his mats. Two employees worked for 90 minutes to remove the mats. Not once did he growl or show his teeth. He must have been very uncomfortable! Once he was shaved, he went into the bathtub for a nice, warm bath. He received a full physical exam from the vet and received a rabies and a distemper vaccine.
Upon evaluation, it was noted that he has some dental disease and is not neutered.
His birthday is March 2023.
We gave him a small amount of food and he inhaled it. He was so hungry. The plan is small amounts of a bland diet for the next several weeks.
I shed some tears today but realize he is safe from any further neglect. This fundraiser is to help defer the cost of a dental cleaning, neuter, and special food. Any help would be appreciated. It’s New Year's Eve and this little guy now has a fresh start going into 2025.
Thank you for your consideration.
