Meet Me on Madison isn’t just another restaurant and Amy isn’t just another business owner. Anyone who has stepped into the cafe and had a conversation, even if just while ordering their food, knows that. Since its opening in 2021, Amy has helped to fill a gap in the food industry in downtown Peoria. She knows her customers by name. She knows their usual orders. She remembers the important milestones happening in their lives.

But Meet Me on Madison has been out of operation since August 21st since sewage abruptly rained down into the cafe causing her to have to immediately close. Maintenance has come by. A restoration company was hired (and then sent away). Part of the floor and walls have been ripped apart. But now everything is at a standstill because no one wants to take responsibility for the damages and repairs.

Amy has spent countless hours on the phone and emailing with the landlord, the City of Peoria, the management company, lawyers, and insurance and still, she’s left with no answers.

It has been over a month and her small business is in jeopardy. This is a business she built up side by side with her husband - no loans or grants, just their belief in bringing a community cafe to the downtown area. Meet Me on Madison doesn’t have corporate backing to lean on - the business can’t be sustained with its doors shut and no end in sight.
