I’m creating this GoFundMe campaign to support my close friend, Amy Gogol, who is facing multiple overwhelming crises all at once. This is truly the last thing she would ever want to resort to, but after months of trying every other avenue, she is out of options and urgently needs help.
This past summer, Amy’s life was abruptly turned upside down by a series of unexpected and severe health complications. She endured multiple hospital stays, EMT visits, and even a near-fatal reaction to new medication. After months of testing and ongoing evaluations, she was diagnosed with a serious, life-altering illness that has significantly reduced both her physical and cognitive capacity. The recovery process has been long, unpredictable, and emotionally devastating.
Prior to all of this, Amy was fully independent. Now, she struggles to complete daily tasks that most of us don’t think twice about. Basic household and self-care activities such as washing dishes, doing laundry, taking out the trash, checking the mail, preparing meals, or even standing for more than short periods of time have become too exhausting or physically impossible for her. She has tried to continue working in order to stay afloat, but her condition only allows her to maintain part-time hours for just a few hours per week, and even that varies depending on how she feels day to day.
Throughout this ordeal, Amy has reached out to local and state agencies for support, only to be met with silence, repeated “call us back” messages, or news that assistance programs have waitlists as long as seven years or more. She has spent months making phone calls, filling out applications, and following up on referrals without any practical help. She is genuinely out of reachable resources.
As if the medical and financial strain were not already enough, Amy recently received news that her rent on the same apartment she has lived in for over five years will be increasing by more than $500 per month starting next month. She cannot physically or financially handle a move, but she also cannot afford to stay. Moving for her is not just a matter of packing boxes; she will require paid assistance to sort belongings, pack, transport items to storage, and secure new housing. On top of that, her health depends on access to nutritious prepared foods, nutritional shakes, various supplements, and basic household support to get through daily life.
Amy has always been generous, thoughtful, and willing to show up for the people she loves. She would gladly put together something like this (and has)for any of her friends or family if they were struggling, and now, she is the one who needs help. We are hoping that through this campaign, we can alleviate some of the financial pressure so that she can focus on stabilizing her health and planning for the uncertain chapter ahead.
Any contribution is deeply appreciated. Truly, no amount is too small. More than anything, we want Amy to have the ability to heal, regain stability, and not be forced into homelessness or debt simply because she got sick.
Thank you for taking the time to read, donate, share, and support Amy during what has been the hardest period of her life. ❤️
