Hi everyone....my mom, Amy Quillen (52), wife, mother of three and elementary school teacher, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on 8/11/21. While she is receiving top medical care, she is at risk of losing her health insurance at the beginning of November and that is why she needs your help!
At the beginning of November, my mom will have to start self-paying her monthly health insurance premium out of pocket. In just a few short weeks, the school board will stop contributing their portion to her premium and her payments will be $2570/month. She won't be allowed to return to work until the next school year in 8/2022 (per her employer's medical leave policy...not her choice) so she will have to make that hefty payment each month from November 2021 through July 2022. It goes without saying that she needs to continue her health care coverage in order to win this fight!!!
Like most of us, my parents don't have the financial means to make these shocking premium payments. Thankfully, my mom has short-term disability which will replace her lost income through March but that's all that it will cover. That's why she needs your help....the thought of losing her health insurance coverage during her battle with cancer is terrifying. Her top priority needs to be her health....not financial issues.
For those of you who don't know my mom....her and my dad just celebrated their 30-year anniversary in May. She has three grown children and a daughter-in-law (Ryan and Lian, Zac and me, Hollie) that she loves fiercely. She's dedicated the last 13 years of her career as a teacher to her students in Pinellas County, FL. She says that the hardest part of her illness, so far, has NOT been having a full hysterectomy or starting chemotherapy. The hardest part has been being away from her much-loved and missed students and colleagues. She needs to get healthy so that she can get back to the classroom!
Any amount that you can donate will be immensely helpful. Whether you're able to donate or not, please share this GoFundMe on all your social media platforms. Most importantly, please keep my mom and our family in your thoughts and prayers!!
