Dear friends and family,
We are coming together as a community to share an urgent and heartfelt plea for support. Recently, our dearest friend Amy received the life-altering diagnosis of Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer that has now spread to her liver, lymph nodes and possibly elsewhere.
Despite the gravity of her situation, Amy has approached this battle with strength, courage, and an infectious optimism that continues to inspire everyone around her.
Every three weeks, Amy bravely undergoes immunotherapy at The Arthur Child Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Just recently, she completed four rounds of a powerful double-dose of immunotherapy medication delivered via IV drip. Each session serves as a testament to her resilience and determination, fueling her immune system in the fight against this relentless disease. Each treatment comes with its own set of adverse side effects, pain, nausea, brain fog, fatigue, lack of appetite, depression, and anxiety. Thankfully, Amy is a fighter and won't let these bumps in the road get in the way of her recovery.
Three weeks after her final double dose immunotherapy treatment, Amy's medical team will conduct a full-body PET scan—to determine if the cancer has stopped spreading. This moment is filled with hope and anxiety for all of us who love her.
In the best-case scenario, we hope and pray that the immunotherapy is doing its job. If it is, Amy can continue with treatments at a lower dosage, still aimed at shrinking the tumors, giving us a chance to see the cancer restaged from Stage 4 to Stage 3 or lower. This would mean she remains under the compassionate care of the Arthur Child Cancer Centre for several more months, reaching into 2026. However, should the news not be what we hope for, Amy will need to work with her family and dedicated team of oncologists to explore other treatment options like chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. This path might be longer and more complicated, but we have faith that she will confront it with the same fire and strength that she has shown thus far.
Because of the intensity of her treatments and their side effects, Amy will soon need to take leave from her role at WestJet, where she has dedicated over 20 years of her life. It breaks our hearts to see her pause her work in the yoga community, where she has poured her passion and love into uplifting others. Right now, her main focus must be on healing, but sadly, her disability insurance won't fully cover her living expenses.
This is why we are reaching out to you, our community. We've created a GoFundMe campaign to raise $30,000 CAD to help cover Amy’s basic living costs—medications, rent, food, transportation, and other essentials—while she bravely battles cancer. Your generosity will ensure that Amy can focus entirely on her healing journey without the added burden of financial stress.
Anyone who knows Amy knows she is a brilliant burst of colour and joy in this world. You’ll always find her lighting up the front row of the dance floor, dressed in vibrant hues, smiling ear to ear and radiating positivity to everyone around her. A proud supporter of the Calgary music scene, an accomplished triathlete, marathoner and a devoted yoga practitioner/instructor, Amy inspires all of us to move, breathe, and embrace life fully.
Now it's our turn to rally together and show her the same love and energy she has shared with so many of us in our community.
Please consider donating whatever you can—no amount is too small, and every contribution will make a meaningful difference in Amy's journey.
If you're unable to give financially, we kindly ask that you share this campaign with your friends, family, and community. Together, we can be a source of strength, hope, and support that Amy needs right now.
With love and gratitude, let’s unite to help Amy focus on healing, let's help her win this epic battle against cancer.
