Hi, I’m Rebecca, comedian Amy Miller’s older sister.
I’m starting this fundraiser for my sister after a scary and unexpected cancer diagnosis.
Back in March, Amy went to the dermatologist for something completely unrelated and ended up having a suspicious mole biopsied. It came back as malignant melanoma. Holy moley!
On May 13, she’ll have scans to determine the extent of the cancer, including whether it has spread to lymph nodes or other areas, followed by surgery to remove anything concerning. The long wait (TWO F*ING MONTHS!) between diagnosis and surgery has been incredibly stressful for Amy and for all of us who love her. Melanoma can move quickly, so the uncertainty has been hard. We’re hopeful for good news and that surgery will be the major hurdle. I will be with her before and after surgery and can update here as we get more info.
Amy has been dealing with all of this during an already difficult stretch financially. Like many working comedians and artists, the last couple of years have brought inconsistent work, fewer opportunities, and insurance that leaves too much uncovered.
We’re asking for help to ease some of the burden so Amy can focus on healing.
Funds raised will go toward medical costs and her very high deductible, recovery time away from work, lost income while she’s unable to travel and perform, as well as basic living expenses during treatment and healing.
If you know Amy, you know how much she gives to people. She has spent years making others laugh, showing up for friends, building community, and bringing joy wherever she goes. She needs to be surrounded by that same love right now and we know that you all love her as much as she loves you! Our family is doing what we can for her and we are hoping her community would be willing to help out as well.
Anything helps. Truly...$5, $10, or simply sharing this page means so much! We know times are hard for many people, especially artists and performers, so support in any form is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for helping us get Amy through this so she can heal and get back to doing what she does best: making people laugh!
