Help Amy beat the big C for good!

If you’ve landed here, I’d say you are already aware my name is Amy and I am currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and have a BRCA1 gene mutation. My little cancer friend in my boob, however, recently decided to sprout a friend in my brain and the course of treatment and medical care that I originally had planned has taken a turn toward the more expensive (i.e. non PBS drug) route. I will now be undergoing a course of radiation to both my breast and brain, followed by a double mastectomy, removal of reproductive organs (essentially just another place for this to show up) and a course of a follow up drug that’s cost is rather wild.

Now, the usual non-cancer patient version of me would roll up her sleeves and work my ass off to pay for whatever needed to be paid for to get this taken care of, but I have been told that ain’t allowed in this case. I have to finally take a sign from the universe to sit down, relax, take care of myself and my bubba and let this treatment do it’s thing. To say that is tough to take is the understatement of the century.

So, this is me taking control of what I can to get myself and my family through this shit storm and out the other side better than ever.

When I share my story with friends and family, the first thing I'm asked is “how do we help?”

I won’t be able to work or do a lot at all during my treatment and I have a (currently 4 month old) son. So, to me, that equals a rather large burden on my beautiful fiancé and family - emotionally, physically and financially, which in turn creates more stress for me (as stated above, that’s not allowed anymore). The drug I need to take is not covered on the PBS and is a two year long treatment too. So, what I’m asking for is financial help to at least alleviate that part of the stress of treatment.
