Hello, I am Amy Whitney, and my partner is Nicci Hartland, and I hate to say it, but we are really in need of some financial help. We have had a rough year and a half, and it has continued to worsen. Here is the list of events that have happened:
• Jan 21, 2024, our HVAC system failed, and we needed an entirely new furnace and air conditioner system $18,806.00.
• Between January and March 2024, I managed to have Influenza B and Covid twice.
• Nicci’s was working hard to finish her last 3 semesters to achieve her BS degree. We were paying $2000.00 per semester until her graduation in December 2024.
• On Memorial Day weekend of 2024 I fell off a ladder chain sawing dead limb off our trees. I significantly injured my left knee leaving be in a total leg hinged knee brace with no weight bearing. Too much money to calculate in the end.
• Jun 18, 2024, we discovered a significant leak in one of our pipes in the basement leading to many other plumbing issues and the water heater needed to be replaced. Over $6000.00
• Sept. 11, 2024, our car which our son Conner uses broke down in Baltimore. On crutches I took my truck down, to tow it home. Costing over $5000.00
• After being on crutches all summer into the fall I was scheduled for a total left Knee replacement on September 18, 2024. I was out of work for a little longer than a month.
• One week after returning to work October 28th, 2024, I was laid off due to a reduction in the work force. This was the most tragic event I have ever had in her career. I had never been laid off or fired in my lifetime. It was a huge blow and very depressing. I have been a nurse for 34 years and have had an exemplary career. My mentality was a nurse can always get a job right! After a short pause wrapping my arms around the situation. I started applying for jobs but was shocked at being turned down mostly because they said I was overqualified or had not worked hands with patients for too many years. Other jobs wanted specific certifications that I didn’t have. I had been grand mothered in due to experience in my career up to this point.
• Meanwhile, Nicci continued working and we were extremely fortunate to have medical, dental and vision insurance through her but that dropped her take-home pay to a point where we could not pay all the bills. I applied for unemployment benefits but that was a quarter of her weekly pay.
• I finally obtained a contracting job for three months in March - May in Oklahoma. But we had taken money out of our credit cards and sacrificed bills to get started with the job because of all the airfare, hotels, and money we needed to pay upfront. In the end the job was extremely stressful, and it just barely pulled us through.
• On May 8, 2025, we lost electricity in our Den, so we had to call an electrician. We found out the electric boxes had not been wired correctly and no longer met code. Over $2000 we had electric back into the Den and hallway.
• June-July 2025 the straw that has broken us is we have been having leaks in our roof and the front porch has been rotting. We called in for quotes and finally went with a company that took pictures and showed us all the problems we had. I was a major shock to us. The roof was collapsing in many parts, and it was leaking down onto the porch and siding. Many places the water was just coming into the attic of the house. We agreed to the roofing, once they tore the roof off it was mostly rotten and the plywood needed to be repaired. They found there was rot going right down between the siding and the house. They need to replace the siding, replace the wood and three windows and a sliding door. All a cost of $155,400 or there abouts.
The bottom line is that we can’t afford the financial burden and really need help. Any amount of money you care to donate would be appreciated.
