Help Amy and Brett with Medical Expenses

Donation protected

On August 1, 2020 our vibrant Amy Matson was rushed to the hospital with major chest pain.  The doctor confirmed it was a heart attack.  A major artery on the left side of her heart was blocked and two stents were inserted.  Since that time she has had two more incidents, which showed the stents had become occluded. This ultimately resulted in open heart bypass surgery on December 15th, Amy’s birthday.  At this point, Amy and Brett were grateful for the surgery and grateful the worst was behind them.  Unfortunately on January 25th, Amy again experienced yet another round of heart pain and Brett again rushed her to the hospital.  Her heart surgeon in Portland was at a loss and told her he had done everything he could do other than putting Amy on the waiting list for a heart transplant.  In the meantime Amy was directed to a specialist associated with the University of Washington who specializes in cases such as hers.  He accepted her as a patient and Amy was rushed to Seattle for yet another heart procedure. This doctor has told her that there is a ~ 80% success rate with this procedure, so again Amy and Brett are cautiously hopeful.

Brett has been an extraordinary team of one in supporting and caring for Amy during this time of Covid.  He has had to balance their friends’ offers of help with the horrible and real chance of exposing Amy to Covid. Therefore Brett has taken on her full care singlehandedly, along with his full-time teaching duties, cooking, cleaning, shuttling Amy to her appointments, and taking care of their beloved dog, Staley.

As you can imagine, the numerous procedures and hospitals stays the past several months have impacted them.

If you would be inclined to assist in supporting Amy and Brett monetarily at this time, it would take some burden off their medical bills and would allow both of them to more fully focus on Amy's recovery. Anyone that knows Amy knows that her life has been about helping and caring for others, let’s take this opportunity to help her.

Note: Any funds not needed for her medical expenses, will be donated to the University of Washington Heart Institute.
