Help Us Lay Amir Lamar Atkins to Rest
Hello, my name is Jocelyn, and I’m the proud aunt of Amir Lamar Atkins — a bright, loving, and joyful 11-year-old boy whose life was tragically taken far too soon. Amir was shot and killed in broad daylight at Folwell Park in North Minneapolis, MN. We are devastated, heartbroken, and still in shock.
A bystander tried to save him — flagged down help, begged for urgency — but nothing could stop the unthinkable from happening. Our sweet Amir was gone.
Amir was full of life. He loved flipping, singing, playing outside, and had dreams of becoming a basketball star. Unlike so many kids today, Amir loved being outdoors — shooting hoops, playing tag, tossing a football — just being a kid. A real one. Pure, active, kind, and full of light.
He was an amazing big brother, always looking out for his siblings, especially his younger brother. Even though he had to navigate life between two homes, Amir was strong, joyful, and carried a light that touched everyone who met him.
Now our family is left grieving a loss that no one should ever have to face — the loss of a child. His parents, my brother and his mother, are shattered. Amir leaves behind 8 siblings and an entire family who adored him deeply. We’re not okay, but we’re holding on to each other.
There is still an ongoing investigation into his death, and we’re praying for justice — real justice — for Amir.
In the meantime, we are preparing to lay our precious boy to rest. It’s something no parent should ever have to do — and that’s why we’re asking for your help. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help give Amir the proper goodbye he deserves and help relieve some of the burden from his grieving parents.
Thank you for your love, your support, your shares, and most importantly — your prayers.
With broken hearts and deep gratitude,
Amir’s Aunt & Loving Family
