Help Amir and Mira's Family Survive the Bombing and Cold

My name is Ariel Collins and I live in Portland, OR. I started this fundraiser for Shatha, a 29 year old mother of two young children, Amir and Mira. She was an English teacher and still continues to contribute her skills and compassionate care to the camp that her and her family have been displaced to.

Over the past 8 months Shatha and her entire family have become like dear siblings, nieces and nephews. It has been my greatest honor and privilege to know them. Please read Shatha’s words below.

Hello, my name is Shatha and I am a 29 year old wife and mother of two young children Amir 5 and Mira, 2. We were displaced from northern Gaza with nothing and were able to buy a tent through donations. Amir was missing his school and learning and many kind people donated and I was able to buy materials and help him continue his learning. Our conditions however continue to deteriorate. Our tent constantly floods, and our clothing and blankets become wet. We are very cold at night and struggle to keep the children warm and dry. Food has become very difficult to buy. Vegetables are very expensive and flour too. We finally saw chicken here in the markets after more than 4 months but nobody could afford them. A whole chicken was $80-$100. We could not afford this.

We were displaced more times than I can remember and are now living in a tent in Khan Younis in the Mawasi camp for the displaced. It is crowded and the conditions are not sanitary. We suffer from the cold conditions now that winter has arrived and we struggle to keep ourselves and our children properly fed and clothed. Please consider the impact of even a small donation. We are very grateful to each person that shows us compassion and humanity and we will never forget your generosity and help during this unimaginable time we are living. Explanation of how funds will be used: The funds donated will be used for basic necessities to simply live. Tent materials, food, water, water pumps, diapers, toiletries, warm blankets and winter clothes, and other necessities to survive.
