Help Amina Rebuild and Protect Cloudland

Cloudland, the colorful apartment I created, went viral and it changed my life and the industry forever. But behind all the joy and attention was a fight that shaped everything that came after.

This story is bigger than me. Brands, companies, and wealthy people have been stealing from independent artists and creators... especially from Black artists, Black women, and queer people... since the beginning. And it only seems to be happening more and more frequently.

I tried to do everything I could to protect myself, to protect Cloudland, and to fight for what was taken from me. But what I realized at the time is that the only thing I could truly fight for was survival. The most important lesson I learned is that you have to protect your creative work beforehand. That’s why I am now doing everything I can to trademark my creations and safeguard my work, so that if someone tries to take it again, it won’t become such a devastating battle.

This isn’t just about me. It’s about protecting Black queer art and creativity from being erased, and resisting a system that allows those with power and money to take from marginalized creators without consequence.

The next phase of my healing journey is also about celebration. I refuse to participate in the erasure of Black art and creativity. While I move my current Cloudland project forward, I’ll also be creating a Cloudland retrospective series... celebrating the magic I already made, while building even more.

To be queer, Black, and autistic right now, and to survive as a creator, is a struggle. But I am not giving up. I’m protecting Cloudland, I’m celebrating what I’ve done, and I’m making more magic.
