Help Amie & Laurel have a wedding.

Donation protected

I am posting this GoFundMe in hopes to raise money to renew my vows with my wife, Laurel.

Our long story:

Laurel and I met in highschool in the Fall of 1987 when she was still in the closet and living as her birth name.

I was a freshman and she was a senior. We didn't "mesh" right away, she was leaning on my locker talking to her bestie, John, whose locker was next to mine. I asked her to move , she did , but not enough that the locker door didn't hit her and get dented .,

We became friendly over the school year, and in early June on her graduation night, I was invited along with her friends/family for pizza. We spent the night making out in the backseat .

We were together off & on from summer 1988 - summer 1991 when I graduated and we got back together permanently.

We (I as Amie & her as her dead name ) married at the Justice of the Peace on January 14, 1993 , had a daughter Kasey on December 23,1995 and another daughter, Jordanne, on November 26, 2003.

I had always felt that she was keeping some from me, maybe she wasn't happy in our marriage, maybe she wanted to divorce and see other people. But she assured me she was happy.

Late in the summer 2021 , we both made some personal confessions to each other, me that women were as attractive as men to me and she that she really felt like a woman inside and wanted to explore that. ( THAT'S what I was sensing over the years)

We spent the next 10 months in exploration and discussion and the next summer at Grand Rapids Pride 2022, she made the decision to become Laurel full-time.

At that time she asked me how I felt about that, and I said I had 29 years married to "dead name" , I want 29 more with Laurel.

She jumped through a lot of legal hoops and changed her name legally, changed her Social Security card and birth certificate and is now living her truthful life as Laurel Elisabeth Walker and is also board member of the Grand Rapids Trans Foundation.

Laurel is dealing with a couple medical issues, she's been a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 13 (that's 40 years ago now) & she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Sarcoidosis, which causes growths on her lymph nodes, in December 2022. So Laurel is on long-term disability through her previous employer, she has applied for permanent SSI , was denied and is awaiting a court date for the appeal.

So we are on a fixed income, but still want to have a ceremony and small party with friends and family.

We are having the celebration on August 9, 2024.
