Help Amherst Girls Sprinters Shine at Nike Nationals
Donation protected
This year, five of the Amherst girls sprinters have qualified to run at Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon against some of the fastest athletes in the country. The ability to run at competitive meets such as this one, gives our athletes greater opportunities to succeed on the highschool level and potentially on the collegiate level. It also shines a better light on Amherst’s skilled track team that currently does not have a functioning track. Opportunities like this one will gain Amherst athletes more attention from scouts and donors that will further their success.
This season, our five sprinters have had numerous accomplishments and set multiple records. Moriah Luetjen’s 24.80 second 200m time is currently seeded 4th in the state and broke her own school record. She was also the Division 4 state champion in the 400m. Ololara Baptiste won both the 100m and 200m at the Western Mass freshman-sophomore meet. Freshman Kora Brissett ran a 12.61 second 100m placing her at 5th in the state for Division 4. This incredible time also got her into the freshman 100m at Nike Nationals! Ella Austin, who set the Amherst Middle School 400m school record last year, runs a low 62 second 400m which has greatly improved our 4x400 relay time. Lastly, Ruby Austin has consistently shaved off time in many events including the 100m, 200m and 400m and has proved to be an essential part of Amherst’s relay teams. Each of the talented athletes have participated in many relays that have finished top 5 in the state, including the 4x100 which broke the 10 year school record!
We appreciate any donations that will help these young, female athletes make the trip to Oregon for this amazing opportunity and we thank everyone who supports this talented group! Go Canes!
