Dearest friends and family,

My heart aches as I write to you today. As many of you know, my beloved sister-in-law, Karla, has been battling Myasthenia Gravis for over fifteen years. This debilitating disease has cruelly robbed her of so much: her eyesight, her mobility, her independence, her ability to work, and the joy of fully participating in her children's lives. For years, she bravely fought, but now, at only 40 years old, her illness has taken a devastating turn.

Karla's courageous sons, Santiago (16) and Salomon (14 today), have shouldered an unimaginable burden. They've matured beyond their years, balancing school, household responsibilities, and the care of their autistic older brother, Sebastian, all while their father works tirelessly to support them, often holding down multiple jobs without respite. This incredible family relocated to Peru from Venezuela to seek better medical care and access to essential medications, a testament to their unwavering love and determination of my brother for his family.

This morning, Karla was placed on a ventilator in the ICU. Her prognosis is uncertain. Before this happened, she entrusted me with a profound request: to ensure her children and her husband are not left alone and helpless. This promise fuels my plea to you today. While we don't know how much time we have left with her, we are determined to do everything possible to alleviate her suffering and provide her with the most compassionate care.

My brother, her devoted husband, is by her side, sacrificing his work and income to be with her during this critical time. He is unable to receive paid family leave, adding to the immense financial strain our family faces. The children have said their goodbyes, a scene that my brother described to me, and will forever haunt my memory.

It pains me deeply not been able to be next to them and hug them.

We are reaching out to you, our cherished community, for assistance.
