After years of training, grinding, and sacrificing, I finally got what I thought was a life-changing opportunity—a contract to play professional soccer overseas. I was promised a salary, housing, and transport, and I believed this was my moment to change not only my life but to make my family proud and inspire people from communities like mine.
But things didn’t go the way I expected.
When I arrived, everything changed. The contract terms were not honored, and the salary I was promised never came. I was pressured to keep playing even though I was never paid. My passport was held for “visa processing,” and I was left in a situation that became dangerous and unstable. I was living off hope, faith, and whatever food I could afford. I stayed as long as I could because I didn’t want to give up on my dream—but I eventually realized I had been misled and taken advantage of.
Now I’m stranded, far away from home, and I don’t have the funds to return to Denver to be with my family. I’m trying to get back on my feet, continue chasing my football career the right way, and most importantly—make it home safely.
