Amelie is volunteering in Kenya! Please help her get there!

Hi!

My name is Amelie and I’m 13 years old. My school has just given me the most amazing opportunity. I’m travelling to Kenya, Africa with Camps International, in 2 years time. I’ll be spending 4 weeks living with rural communities, helping as much as I can, while also learning about their culture and lifestyle. I cannot wait to meet the children and families there and spend time with them.

I will be involved with so many different activities that will help and support the local communities. This could be building schools and classrooms, helping to teach children, digging watering holes for elephants, assisting with sea turtle conservation, deworming goats and even making paper and art out of elephant dung - which can then be sold!

I will also have the amazing opportunity to go on safari. I cannot wait to do this - I am really looking forward to seeing the elephants and rhinos in their natural habitat.

During the final 2 weeks of our adventure, we will be at the coast where we will be improving marine conservation and making sure the habitat is looked after and protected. We’ll be removing plastic waste and supporting the development of sustainable agrofisheries.

I will also learn to SCUBA dive, even gaining my PADI open water diving qualification! This will be brilliant for me, as I have been swimming every week since I was 3 months old. I will get to swim with rays, seals and turtles and explore the underwater world.

This is such an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait to get there! But first, I need to fundraise as much as I can to go towards the cost of £5,190. I will be learning lots of new skills while fundraising which will be great for my personal development, such as; project management, budgeting, teamwork, communication skills, marketing, problem solving, time management, independence, creativity, resourcefulness, resilience and self motivation (I’ll also be having lots of fun with friends!)

To earn money, I will be
  • car washing
  • holding bake sales
  • ironing
  • upcyling items to sell
  • painting fences
  • mowing lawns
  • watering gardens
  • selling second hand clothes
  • making cards
  • making bracelets

I am also doing joint events with my friends who are also going to Africa such as
  • hosting a cinema night
  • having a table at a craft fair
  • bag packing in supermarkets
  • holding a quiz night
  • holding a Bingo night
  • Christmas wreath making
  • tombolas
and lots more!

Please help in anyway you can. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’ll be making memories that I will look back on and cherish forever. I am also looking forward to making a real difference to the communities who host us.

Thankyou SO much for reading my story and if you are able to help in anyway, I’ll be very grateful ☺️.
