A family in Nassau County is urgently seeking support as they work to relocate their young daughter, Amelia, to a safe and lead-free living environment.

Over the past several months, Amelia’s blood tests have shown dangerously elevated lead levels. Despite medical treatment and precautions at home, her levels have not decreased. County health officials have since advised her mother that the family must relocate as soon as possible to protect Amelia’s health.

While searching for a new home, her mother believed she had found a legitimate rental. The listing appeared professional, the documents were convincing, and the individual posting used the identity of a licensed professional.

Shortly afterward submitting a deposit communication stopped.

It became clear they had been victims of a rental scam.

The real estate agent whose identity was used confirmed that multiple families had been targeted in the same way. As a result, the savings this family had set aside for a security deposit and moving expenses are now gone, all while they continue to face the urgent need to move due to their little girls lead exposure.

The situation has left them overwhelmed, financially strained, and still unable to relocate Amelia to a safe home.

They have identified a suitable rental in Connecticut near supportive family members, but they need assistance covering the new deposit and first month’s rent in order to secure it.
