Every parent's worst nightmare is watching their child suffer without being able to help. For Marin, this nightmare became reality when her vibrant, BMX-loving daughter Amelia fell ill from a devastating combination of infections that triggered PANS, a severe autoimmune condition affecting her brain.

THE CRISIS:

What should have been a joyful Christmas season instead found Marin and Amelia in the emergency room, facing a parent's worst fears. Amelia's mysterious symptoms started with swollen lymph nodes and concerning immune markers. Despite multiple rounds of powerful antibiotics, her condition has deteriorated as she battles a dangerous combination of strep and bartonella infections, along with mono.

THE IMPACT:

The most heartbreaking change has been watching our brave little BMX rider transform into a different child entirely. The infection has spread to Amelia's brain, causing inflammation in her frontal lobes and triggering PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome). Once confident and adventurous, Amelia now spends her days curled up beside her mom, gripped by paralyzing anxiety. The combination of strep and dangerously high bartonella levels is causing both physical and neurological symptoms that have dramatically impacted her daily life.

URGENT MEDICAL NEEDS:

Specialist treatment at Mayo Clinic (out-of-pocket expense)
IVIG infusions ($3,000 per treatment, needed multiple times weekly - cash pay)
Ongoing care for underlying infections and complications
Travel expenses and extended stay lodging

Insurance companies are notorious for denying coverage for PANS treatments, leaving families to shoulder these enormous costs alone. The specialized IVIG treatments that could help restore Amelia's health are prohibitively expensive but essential for her recovery.
