Hello everyone,
 My name is Riya Ritika Kumar, and today I’m writing something I never imagined I would need to write. My family is going through the hardest chapter of our lives, and I’m reaching out with hope that there are people out there who can help us keep fighting.
 
Earlier this year, my mum, Ameeta Rosleen Mala, was diagnosed with Metastatic Cancer. Hearing those words shattered me. My mum is the strongest woman I know — the one who always puts everyone else first, who carries the weight of the family on her shoulders without ever complaining. Seeing her suddenly so vulnerable has been heartbreaking in a way I can barely put into words.
 
These past months have been filled with hospital appointments, treatments, emotional setbacks, and days where her pain is so intense that all I can do is hold her hand and pray. Despite everything, she still fights with unbelievable courage. Even on her worst days, she finds a way to smile and tell me she’s okay, just so I won’t worry.

With the support of family and friends, we managed to get her through the first stage of chemotherapy. But cancer doesn’t stop after one stage — and the financial burden is becoming overwhelming. Every round of treatment, every scan, every specialist review comes with another invoice. No matter how hard we try, we are falling behind.

Because I am the only one in the family in Australia with limited work rights, I’ve been doing everything I can to support my mum while balancing my studies, appointments, and the emotional weight of this journey. But the truth is, the medical costs are far beyond what I can manage alone.
