Amber is a brave 4-year-old girl from Costa Rica who needs your help. She was born at just 26 weeks and diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy, which limits her ability to walk and play. As she grows, her condition is worsening and beginning to impact her spine.

Toe walking is common in children with cerebral palsy, like Amber, and is caused by spasticity—involuntary muscle contractions due to brain damage. This spasticity tightens the muscles in her legs and feet, forcing her to walk on her toes. Over time, this makes walking painful and difficult, and without treatment, it will continue to affect her posture and put additional strain on her spine, limiting her mobility even further.

The surgery Amber needs to correct her feet is available, but the public health system in Costa Rica has a 4-5 year waitlist, time that Amber doesn’t have. We are raising funds for her to have the procedure at a private hospital in San José. Without this surgery, her condition will worsen, making it harder for her to walk and live the life she deserves.

Amber es una valiente niña de 4 años de Costa Rica que necesita tu ayuda. Nació con tan solo 26 semanas y le diagnosticaron parálisis cerebral espástica, que limita su capacidad para caminar y jugar. A medida que crece, su condición empeora y comienza a afectar su columna.

Caminar de puntillas es común en niños con parálisis cerebral, como Amber, y es causado por espasticidad (contracciones musculares involuntarias debido a daño cerebral). Esta espasticidad tensa los músculos de sus piernas y pies, obligándola a caminar de puntillas. Con el tiempo, esto hace que caminar sea doloroso y difícil y, sin tratamiento, seguirá afectando su postura y poniendo tensión adicional en su columna, limitando aún más su movilidad.

La cirugía que Amber necesita para corregir sus pies está disponible, pero el sistema de salud pública de Costa Rica tiene una lista de espera de 4 a 5 años, tiempo que Amber no tiene. Estamos recaudando fondos para que se realice el procedimiento en un hospital privado de San José. Sin esta cirugía, su condición empeorará, haciéndole más difícil caminar y vivir la vida que se merece.
