A Survivor of Domestic Violence Now Facing Rare Nerve Disease, Spinal Cord Damage, and Complete Immobility
Hi, my name is Amber Brady. I’m 45 years old, a survivor of domestic violence, and I am living with Subacute Combined Degeneration of the spinal cord and Copper Myelopathy—rare and serious neurological conditions that have caused significant spinal cord damage and left me completely bedridden.
After being discharged from MetroHealth Hospital, my condition rapidly worsened. During my hospitalization, my husband was arrested for domestic violence against me. At the same time, doctors were unable to stabilize my medical condition, and I was discharged in worse shape than when I was admitted.
Since coming home, my health has continued to decline.
I am now completely bedridden and require 24-hour, around-the-clock care. I have no family nearby and no one to help me with basic daily needs. In order to survive, I have had to pay caregivers out of pocket, which has quickly become financially overwhelming. As a result, I am now struggling to keep up with my mortgage and essential living expenses.
I am reaching out because I truly cannot do this alone.
Your donations will help cover:
In-home health aides and 24-hour care
Essential medical and personal care supplies
A safer, more appropriate hospital bed
Ongoing medical care and disease research
And, if needed, future end-of-life and funeral expenses
Doctors are still trying to understand my condition, and at this time there is no clear path to stabilization. Despite this uncertainty, I am doing everything I can to remain faithful, hopeful, and to receive the care I need to live with dignity and peace.
Any donation—no matter the amount—helps ease the fear and uncertainty I face every day. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page is just as meaningful and deeply appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your kindness, and for standing with me during the most difficult time of my life.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Amber Brady
