Help Amber & Baby Boy Rishel Through a Medical Crisis

Life can change in an instant, and that’s exactly what happened to my dear friend, Amber Leeth. At just 32 weeks pregnant, she experienced a terrifying medical emergency while at work—her blood pressure spiked dangerously high (190/100), she became uncontrollably ill, and was barely able to respond. A friend quickly called 911, and Amber was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, leaving her mother, her boyfriend Hakeem, and her young daughter, Adalynn, overwhelmed with fear.

Amber was admitted for several days as doctors fought to stabilize her severe headaches, vomiting, and dangerously high blood pressure. At one point, there was serious talk of delivering Baby Rishel prematurely at just 32 weeks. Thankfully, with dedicated care, they’ve been able to hold off delivery with a scheduled C-section set for April 30th. However, she is still experiencing concerning episodes and requires constant medical monitoring.

This unexpected crisis has left Amber unable to work, completely out of sick leave, and without an income for the foreseeable future. As a paraeducator, she is new to her district and won’t see benefits from family medical leave for quite some time. Meanwhile, she and Hakeem have just moved into a new apartment, and with baby expenses, medical bills, and basic living costs piling up, the financial strain is overwhelming.
