CNN:
Hello, my name is Amber Henry a single mother of 4 from Tampa, FL. On October 10, 2024, at around 5 AM, my children and I were rescued by reporter Beth Rousseau of WFLA News Channel 8 after being trapped in waist-high floodwaters for nearly seven hours during the devastating Hurricane Milton. I was in a non-evacuation zone in Lakeland, Florida, with my four children, aged 4 to 11. We lost everything.
As the floodwaters rose in our home, we were left in complete darkness, standing in cold, waist-deep water. With transformers exploding around us, I made the terrifying decision to get my children to safety. I carried all four of them through the flood to a neighbor’s house, breaking in to save us from drowning.
Our home is completely destroyed. My car was washed away during the storm surge and is gone. All we have left are the clothes on our backs. We are in desperate need of help to rebuild our lives from the ground up. Any support you can offer would mean the world to us. Hoping to raise enough to secure a new safe place for my children and me, as well as replace our living essentials.
Please help us get through this overwhelming loss and rebuild our lives.
