Help Amber & Alex Save Their Home and Keep the Lights On

Hi, we're Amber and Alex, a hardworking couple just trying to stay afloat after a series of unexpected setbacks. We're reaching out to our community as a last resort, with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits.

After losing my full-time job in a large corporate layoff (Charles Schwab/TD Ameritrade), I (Amber) spent nearly a year applying for new jobs. When nothing came through, I followed my passion and started a small business--Paws & Property Care. Since then, I’ve taken on several part-time jobs to make ends meet. My husband (Alex) is an electrical apprentice, always working hard toward a brighter future. But like so many others, we’ve been struck by life's curveballs, and this time we aren't sure how to recover.

Between having my vehicle stolen (which forced me into Chapter 7 bankruptcy), losing my work computer to a coffee spill, and Alex having both his tools and school laptop stolen from his truck, it’s been one blow after another. We had to purchase a replacement vehicle after his truck broke down, only to be met with a $6,000 auto repair bill on the "new" car just a few months later. Most recently, our dog was attacked at the local dog park, resulting in unexpected emergency vet bills.

We share our home with our beloved pets: my best friend and sweet dog Braxton, our two cats Gracie and Buddy, and our hamsters Spooky and Daisy. The thought of losing our place without knowing what would happen to them is absolutely gut-wrenching. We’ve done everything we can to stay afloat and keep a positive outlook, but at this point, we’re out of options.

We’ve just received a 7-day notice to vacate our apartment, along with pending disconnect notices from both our electricity provider (OPPD) and internet provider (Cox). Without electricity or internet, I can't work. Without our home, we’re not sure what happens next.

We are humbly asking for $2,770 to cover our rent, electric bill, and internet--just enough to catch our breath and stay in our home.

Cost Breakdown:

We've applied for assistance, but we've been told there is no assistance available. We're taking financial wellness courses through Thrivent to avoid a situation like this in the future. We will continue to call around to local churches and charities, and we have begun selling our personal belongings. Unfortunately, things are still looking grim. You--our friends, neighbors, and community--are our last hope.
