Help Ambar and Denny save their home
Donation protected
Due to the immense land movement in their city our friends Ambar, Denny and baby Marlo are going through an incredibly challenging time. Their family home needs urgent foundation repairs and updates to infrastructure. To make matters worse, the area is losing utilities.
On Sept 6th, SoCalGas turned off gas to their home and others indefinitely.
On Sept 9th, Southern California Edison turned off electricity to their community. We are told this will continue indefinitely.
Solution:
The couple needs to go off grid entirely in order to live at the house. Unfortunately, at this point, walking away from the house is not an option as they now owe more on the home than the value.
Facts:
* In California, landslides are not covered by insurance even when a State and Federal Disaster has been declared by FEMA
* Many homes are being dropped by their insurance carriers just for mentioning of possible claims
* The family and community are not receiving individual assistance from FEMA or CALOES as the City and State has only requested funding for public entities to date
* Should the house be condemned in the future, the family will need money for rent elsewhere. They have spent the last three months staying with friends and family
Costs:
Reconstruction Costs (pure remediation):
- Foundation repair
- Replaced windows and doors that have been destroyed by the land movement
- Fissures repairing in floors, etc.
Alternative energy:
- Generator
- Propane tank & Propane
- Battery for Solar Power
This time has been emotionally taxing but they have found solace in their community coming together. The two are raising a little boy and have spent countless hours each day helping their neighbors who happen to be largely elderly and incapable of navigating this disaster alone.
As a community, we are now here to help them with the financial toll this time is taking on them, and aid in paying the bills which have reach staggeringly high amounts.
