Help Amazon Worker Retaliated Against for Organizing!

On April 19th, Atlanta Amazon Teamster driver Hunter Richau was illegally fired after he and his coworkers openly confronted their boss over going back on a promise of bonus pay after a particularly profitable month. Hunter and his coworkers are trailblazers, the second group of officially unionized Amazon workers in Georgia. They were practicing their legally protected and constitutionally guaranteed union rights when Amazon decided to strike back and illegally terminate him to make an example of him for "insubordination." If your boss promised you a bonus for high performance but then weaseled out of it after you went above and beyond for them, is it "insubordination" to simply question the loophole in the policy? Hunter has been organizing at Amazon for 3 years now and has become a real leader for the metro Atlanta campaign. He has been at the center of an ongoing legal battle to consider "independent" Amazon drivers actual Amazon employees that has made it much easier for delivery drivers to legally unionize in the Southeast. In the past year, Hunter has been crucial to putting together a fighting committee of people at the DTG5 warehouse who are working to change their workplace for the better and set a precedent for all Amazon drivers across the country. Hunter has submitted charges with the National Labor Relations Board disputing the illegal termination, and he and his union brothers and sisters are figuring out the next steps.

In the meantime, ATLDSA is asking for donations to help Hunter pay his bills until he can get back on his feet. Our support is all the more important due to the Trump adminsitration's hostility to workers and their attacks on organized labor, slowing down the already very slow National Labor Relations Board unfair labor practice process.
