Our world changed in an instant when our vibrant, healthy 14-year-old daughter, Amaya Marie Tamayo, was diagnosed with AML Leukemia. Amaya always kept up with her checkups and was full of life, with only a fever as her symptom. Doctors told us this form of leukemia is extremely aggressive, and she now needs a bone marrow transplant just three months after her diagnosis.
Since April 16, 2026, Amaya has spent two months in the hospital, bravely enduring two cycles of chemotherapy. Her medical team at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and specialists in Minnesota have worked tirelessly to give her the best chance at a healthy future. The next step is a bone marrow transplant, which will require us to relocate to Minnesota for four months of intensive care. This journey is overwhelming, and we are doing everything we can to be by Amaya’s side every moment.
One of the hardest parts has been learning that Amaya’s three siblings are not a match for her transplant. As her mom and dad, we can only be half-match donors, which makes this process even more challenging and emotional for our family. The mounting medical bills, travel expenses, and time off work are becoming more than we can manage alone. We are reaching out for your support to help us navigate this immense challenge. Any donations and prayers are deeply appreciated. Please consider joining the bone marrow registry—even if you aren't a match for my daughter, you could be a lifesaver for someone else in need. You can order a free cheek swab kit sent right to your door through the NMDP or Gift of Life registries. Thank you for your love, prayers, and generosity during the hardest time of our lives. With all our gratitude, Amaya Marie Tamayo & Mom Casandra Puente
