An Amazing Opportunity

My name is Amara Dorr, and I am a junior at Drake University! I am currently earning my Bachelor of Vocal Performance degree!

This summer, I have been accepted into the International Lyric Academy, a prestigious opera festival program in Vincenza, Italy. ILA is a world-class training ground designed to develop young singers into full-fledged professional opera performers. At ILA, I will be performing Adele in Die Fledermaus and covering the role of Nanetta in Falstaff!

This isn’t just another summer program. It’s an intensive and immersive experience where emerging artists work closely with top vocal coaches, directors, and agents. Through masterclasses, staged performances, and real audition opportunities, the program is designed to launch serious vocalists into professional careers in opera.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Opera has always been more than a passion for me—it’s my calling. I grew up immersed in the world of Des Moines Metro Opera, which is where my father works. I spent my youth performing on the stage in the children's choruses of Turandot and La Bohème. As my voice matured, I began serious training with an amazing vocal coach, Leanne Freeman-Miller, and have spent years refining my technique and performing/competing wherever and whenever I can. Being selected for this program is a huge honor and an incredible chance to grow artistically and professionally on an international stage—in the heart of opera’s historic roots!

This festival is the kind of experience that shapes futures. It will give me access to:

   •   Advanced vocal training

   •   Staged opera performances

   •   Industry networking and audition exposure

   •   One-on-one coaching with opera professionals

This opportunity comes with a high price tag, and while I've already committed to some of the costs, I need help covering the full amount.
