This is Amar. We met him at our hotel's restaurant while staying on a small island in Indonesia called Nusa Lembongan. As soon as we talked to him we could tell he was a good soul.

He told us his story of growing up in a small village with very little opportunity, and how he had been practicing English every day for the past 7 years to be able to move and find better opportunities to make money for his family. He moved to Nusa Lembongan with his wife to make more money and support his kids and family back home. He had a fire in his chest pushing him to continually improve and make his dreams come true.

So naturally we asked him what his dream was, and his response was simple. He said he simply wanted to make enough to support his family and make them, and the people around him, happy. He then went into more detail about his dream of becoming a barber and giving cheap haircuts to his community. He told us he was saving up to go to Bali and buy the equipment to start.

The next day, he told us he wanted to take us around the island on his motorbike. He had worked till 11pm the day before and got to work at 6am the next day, running on 4 hours of sleep, but still wanted to show my brother and I around the island. He showed us true kindness without getting anything in return.

While he had the plan to take us around the island, I had the plan to give him some money towards his goal, because his genuine love and character had shined so bright. I gave him support, which was enough to push him past his goal. We went on an amazing ride with him around the island and to his home (check out the videos for more details), and then we flew back to the US.

After a couple of days of being home, it was time for him to make the journey to Bali to get the supplies. But that's when I got the text. A close family member of his had died, and he had to exhaust the money he'd saved over the past 6-8 months for the funeral.

I was heartbroken, and that's when I got the idea of making this in hopes of rebuilding his savings and helping him make his dreams come true. The funds raised here will be more than enough for him to get the supplies and everything he needs to get started, with plenty left over to support him and his family. Even just a dollar goes further than you think over there.
