Amani Smith, a 17-year-old senior from Shaker Heights High School, is a talented actor, dancer, and beloved cheerleader who has inspired so many with her energy, leadership, and light. Amani is a Captain of the SHHS Band Raiderettes, a varsity cheerleader, a lead choreographer in Sankofa (Shaker’s annual Black History performance), and performer in annual school plays, with future plans to study dance and theatre in college.
But in June 2025, Amani’s life changed forever.
What began as a severe infection quickly turned catastrophic. Amani went into septic shock, and doctors fought to save her life as her organs began to fail. She was placed on life support, and at one point, her survival was uncertain.
Through nothing short of a miracle — and the power of prayer, love, and her fighting spirit — Amani survived. However, she lost one of her legs through the hip to save her life. She remains in Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, beginning the long road to healing.
Now, our goal is to help Amani recover, walk again — and dance again.

• A custom prosthetic limb suitable for a dancer and active teen
• Rehabilitation and physical therapy
• Mobility equipment and home modifications
• Ongoing medical expenses
• Emotional and mental health support for Amani and her family
Amani is the heart of her family and community. She is the daughter of Nicole and Arthur McDaniel, and a big sister to two younger siblings, Arthur Jr. and Avery, who adore her. They’ve been by her side every step of the way, but they can’t do this alone.

This fundraising effort was created by Amani’s cheer coaches in collaboration with the McDaniel family to help them reach out for support when they need it most.
