Our exciting new update:
March 2025 update: Surgery has been scheduled for March 31, 2025 at Maine Medical Center. Almost 7 months from the port infection and accompanying sepsis and blood clots, Amanda is receiving a new port! The timing of this Surgery was unexpected but we are optimistic about it being a much better outcome!
The original post:
On December 26th Amanda had a head and neck CT scan in preparation for getting a new port on her left side. Her surgeon decided on the CT after an ultrasound was negative but out of an abundance of caution before proceeding with the surgery that was scheduled for January 10th.
Unfortunately, the results showed she still has blood clots in her jugular and subclavian vein that are completely blocking blood flow to her right side. Also, there is a new clot that wasn't on her previous imaging, in a right axillary vein, that is also blocking blood flow. All three clots have collapsed the veins due to their size.
This means that Amanda will likely need anti-coagulant medication for the rest of her life, in addition to needing vascular surgery.
The current plan is a thombolectomy in Bangor ASAP.
As you can imagine, this was an unanticipated expense with now gas, food, lodging and travel expenses for Bangor.
Once a surgical plan is established we will send out an update!
We also recognize it's the holiday season and some may not have the means for financial support, just know we could also use the moral support and good vibes as we also continue to support our kiddos: age almost 12 and 2 17 month olds!
