Hi, my name is Amanda McFarland and my mom Lynnell McFarland was recently found alive after 5 DAYS, trapped in her car in the Cascade Mountains without food or water.
When she didn’t return home as expected on the night of November 18, I knew my mom was missing and endangered, and that time was of the essence - I lept into action as soon as I could to start a Facebook missing persons post that could be shared by people across every small town and county she could be in.
By the grace of God, I had an immediate team of 6 or so answer the call and immediately share my message, pass out fliers, and canvas hundreds of miles of highway in Washington State. Within the next few days I had thousands of incredible people on Facebook join in on sharing her picture and search for her.
On Monday, November 22, 2021, 5 days after her phone went unanswered and she vanished without a single sighting, after days of prayer and the help of thousands of Facebook strangers stepping up and rising to the occasion - she was found ALIVE - critically injured and pinned in her car.
The worst was over - but the fight to get proper care and the need to advocate for my mom unfortunately became another 24/7 fight for me in the following weeks. Due to the fact that I am/was her primary contact and closest family member, I needed to be away from my hometown while she has been in the hospital.
I had to take time off of work unpaid without vacation, as well as pay for gas while I searched the state on foot. I have two beautiful dogs that needed to be boarded for 2-3 weeks, and primarily was only able to stay in hotels during that time. Do to the strain I put on my cellphone during those initial 5 days, that also began malfunctioning and continues to do so. I thank God that I was able to use all of that time to find her - as it was up to me and the collective community to find her alive.
I am starting this GoFundMe with a little hesitancy, as I feel like I already received the greatest gift of all -- more time with my mom.
Nonetheless, a few good friends have encouraged me to do so, so here I am. I could use some help paying off debt accrued, restocking my fridge and creating a small savings account for the days ahead, in which I will still be traveling back and forth to support my mom’s lengthy recovery.
