Help Amanda recover & heal

Dear Family, Friends and Community,

Hi, my name is Dallas, and I’m asking for help for my daughter Amanda while she recovers from a severe, possibly life changing, injury.

Amanda has always been a ray of sunshine, spirited, kind-hearted, and generous; forever willing to help friends and strangers alike, and to support anyone in times of need. As an entertainer, her creativity, talent and drive have taken her and her tiny dog Lemon, across Canada and the US where she spreads her warmth, smiles, and positive outlook wherever she goes.

Sadly, in Ontario Canada on Thursday, March 28th, while using fire poi in her performance, there was an accident and she received 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns to both hands.

The physicians who tended to Amanda’s injuries at the hospital are adamant that she will require extensive rehabilitation, physiotherapy and reconstructive plastic surgery for her to be able to close her hands or grip anything again. In order for Amanda to recover fully, her physical and emotional health also need to be addressed through supplementary medical therapy to deal with the burn trauma. Without this medical support, she may be unable to continue her career.

In addition to the physical and emotional aspects of the injuries, this will impact her financially. Costs we know of at this point are the out of province medical expenses for emergency treatment, continuing burn treatment she will receive once she is back home – this includes her medication as well as specialized physiotherapy, wound dressings – as well as the flight back home to British Columbia from Ontario which is last minute and therefore expensive.

Amanda will be unable to work for the foreseeable future while she recovers and help with living expenses is needed, including transportation, rent and food. Being self-employed, she is ineligible for any kind of government assistance.
