Our dear friends Amanda and Maikol were seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Saturday when a car made a turn and hit them. The accident was not their fault, but they both suffered major injuries.

Amanda sustained multiple fractures in her spine and needs urgent surgery with screws placed in her back so that she can stabilize her spine and walk again. She is hoping to be transferred to Hospital Las Américas in Pérez Zeledón for this surgery. Maikol also suffered severe injuries and will need knee reconstruction surgery.

Unfortunately, in Costa Rica the medical costs do not automatically fall on the person responsible for the accident. Amanda and Maikol were taken to a public hospital, but they have not been able to receive the treatment they urgently need there.

The estimated cost for their surgeries and medical care is around $42,000, which they simply do not have. Because of their injuries, they will not be able to work for quite some time.

Amanda was born and raised in Dominical, and she and Maikol are both incredibly hardworking and well known in the community.

Nuestros queridos amigos Amanda y Maikol resultaron gravemente heridos en un accidente de motocicleta el sábado cuando un automóvil giró y los golpeó. El accidente no fue su culpa, pero ambos sufrieron lesiones serias.

Amanda sufrió múltiples fracturas en la columna y necesita una cirugía urgente con tornillos en su espalda para estabilizar su columna y poder volver a caminar. Ella espera poder ser trasladada al Hospital Las Américas en Pérez Zeledón para realizar esta cirugía. Maikol también sufrió lesiones graves y necesitará una reconstrucción de rodilla.

Lamentablemente, en Costa Rica los costos médicos no recaen automáticamente sobre la persona responsable del accidente. Amanda y Maikol fueron llevados a un hospital público, pero allí no han podido recibir el tratamiento urgente que necesitan.

El costo estimado de sus cirugías y atención médica es de alrededor de $42,000, dinero que simplemente no tienen. Debido a la gravedad de sus lesiones, no podrán trabajar durante bastante tiempo.

Amanda nació y creció en Dominical, y tanto ella como Maikol son personas muy trabajadoras y muy conocidas en la comunidad.
