Help Amanda, Lu, and Syndey Attend IWCA Conference

Hello, I am Amanda (also AJ to my friends).

I'm a 3rd-year college student trying to raise money to go to the IWCA (International Writing Centers Association) annual conference. I work at the Writing Resource Center on my campus with two coworkers, Lu and Sydney, and we were accepted to present at this conference. Sydney and I are presenting a roundtable titled "Making Space for Controversial Topics in Writing Center Meetings" and Lu is presenting a roundtable on "Interdisciplinary Orbit: Writing Centers in the Space Between Disciplines"

We were originally relying on our school to help us fund the trip, but unfortunately, they were not able to pull through for us. They were able to give us the registration fee ($250), but can't contribute to any of the remaining costs. We still need about $4,000 in order for all of us to go.

The $4,000 will be going towards our plane tickets, hotel cost, and food costs for 4 days at the conference from October 15th to the 18th.

The Writing Resource Center (WRC) is a place for students to go and receive help on their writing at any stage of the process. To us, there is nothing more exciting than meeting with a student and getting to bounce ideas around and see their papers come together. It's a tradition in our writing center to try and send a few of us out to these conferences so that we can bring in fresh ideas to our own writing center. Ideas on how to improve our space to make it more welcoming. Ideas on how to inform more students about what support we offer. We've had 2 to 4 Student Writing Assistants go each year and it's important to me to try and continue this legacy.

This is also a huge opportunity for us to connect with writing centers and get experience presenting our ideas.
